Monster Pulse Episode 9 - Horror Television Shows

With horror just about everywhere now, on cable TV, Netflix and other streaming platforms... this week we take a look back at some of the horror shows that influenced us. Not in a specific ranking order but in the order in which we discuss, here are our picks! Listen to the episode now:


1. ‘Tales from the Crypt’ (1989-1996)

Tales of horror based on the gruesome E.C. comic books of the 1950s presented by the legendary Crypt Keeper, a sinister ghoul obsessed with gallows humor and horrific puns


2. Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ (1990-2000)

A group of kids get together in the woods, and tell ghost stories.


3. ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ (1955-1962)

Series of unrelated short stories covering elements of crime, horror, drama, and comedy about people of different backgrounds committing murders, suicides, thefts, and other sorts of crime caused by certain motivations, perceived or not.


4. Ash Vs. Evil Dead (2015-2018)

Ash has spent the last thirty years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind's only hope.


5. ‘The Outer Limits’ (1963-1965)

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to — The Outer Limits.


6. ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ (1997-2003)

A young woman, destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, deals with her life fighting evil, with the help of her friends.


7. ‘The Walking Dead’ (2010-Present)

Sheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to learn the world is in ruins, and must lead a group of survivors to stay alive.


8. ‘American Horror Story’ (2011-Present)

An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, including a house with a murderous past, an insane asylum, a witch coven, a freak show, a hotel, a possessed farmhouse, a cult, and the apocalypse.
